Coronation Street's Sam Aston is engaged

A huge congratulations are in order for Coronation Street actor Sam Aston, who has proposed to his girlfriend, Briony Gardner.

The 23-year-old actor landed the role of Chesney Brown in the ITV soap back in 2003 and clearly doesn’t suffer from stage fright as he popped the question in front of 250 people.

Taking to Instagram last night, Sam shared a photo of himself down on one knee with the caption: “Me and my beautiful bride to be.”

Briony, who has been dating Sam for five years, shared the same pic, this time adding more detail in the caption.

She shared: “After sharing over 5 years together, 4 Al, Andy and Sam golf days and 3 doggies, 2 hearts have now become 1 as Sam and I are…ENGAGED!! (How is it possible I can even say that out loud?!).

“Sam got down on one knee last night at his annual golf do and proposed in front of 250 people and my heart could burst with happiness!! (When did I get so lucky?!).

“I can’t wait to marry my whole world but until then, I’m just floating in this bliss called love. I love you @samaston93 [sic]”.

Sam and Briony first met eight years ago at a theatre workshop, quickly becoming friends until 2012 when they decided to take their relationship to the next level.

The happy couple have been inundated with well-wishes from Coronation Street fans since they went public with their news, with one writing: “Congratulations to you both wish yous all the happiness in the world and years full of love and laughter together.”

Another added: “Aww congrats!!! I watched you grow up on Corrie so happy for you!”

Massive congratulations once again to Sam and Briony!
