The UK has recorded 6,178 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours - the third highest daily total since the pandemic began.
There have only been two days since the pandemic began which have exceeded this total - May 1, when there were 6,201 confirmed cases and April 5, when there were 6,199.
Six months to the day since lockdown was imposed in the UK, there have now been 409,729 confirmed cases of the virus.
A further 37 deaths were also reported - the exact same figure as yesterday - bringing the official death toll across all settings to 41,862.
It comes as Sage member Professor Peter Openshaw warned that a ban on households mixing in England must come "sooner rather than later", and that to wait even two weeks to introduce such measures would be "too late".
Meanwhile the Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, issued a stark warning to the public that if the coronavirus rules are not obeyed, Britain could face a second lockdown by Christmas.

So, I’m told the requirement for table service applies to licensed premises only. MacDonalds, Pret & many fast food outlets with eat-in areas will not be required to provide table service. However, those who choose to eat in will need to do so seated at a table. Hope that helps
