Coronavirus: NBA players will be paid full checks for April 15 during suspension
The NBA will pay players their full paychecks due April 15, a month into league’s suspension during the COVID-19 crisis.
The league announced the full pay in a memo, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The status of the next pay period on May 1 is unclear.
NBA and NBPA have been negotiating a withholding of a percentage of players salaries per upcoming paycheck dates. Next up: May 1 checks. League would keep percentage of salaries based on canceled games. https://t.co/4GHbSPpxGJ

The NBA and NBA players association have been negotiating a withholding of pay since games have been canceled during the pandemic. The NBA initially asked players to take a 50-percent pay cut with the players countering at 25 percent. A force majeure in the collective bargaining agreement allows a withholding of 1/92.6 of a player’s salary per canceled game based on catastrophic events.
That pay cut could take place in the May checks.
Portland Trail Blazers CJ McCollum, a vice president for the players association, said last week he estimates 150 of 450 players are living paycheck to paycheck. The league is discussing scenarios to finish the season, including playing games at one or two quarantine arenas.
