Yahoo News Coronavirus: Newborn babies in Bangkok are wearing tiny face shields to protect them from COVID-19
New images show new born babies in Thailand being protected with face shields during the coronavirus pandemic.
So far, confirmed cases of COVID-19 have surpassed 1.6 million across the globe,as the death toll from the virus also climbs to 96,787.
Various countries, such as Italy, Spain and the UK, have imposed nationwide lockdowns, while the Chinese city of Wuhan - where the virus was first recorded - has lifted it quarantine measures after 76 days.
However, in the Thai capital Bangkok, heartwarming pictures show newborn babies being protected with specialist face masks to protect them from COVID-19.
The images were taken through a glass window looking into the maternity ward of Bangkok’s Praram 9 hospital in the city centre.
The babies wore the protective visors while being held by their mothers, as they greeted the world for the very first time.

Thailand has reported a total of 2,473 cases of COVID-19, while a total of 33 people have died after contracting the virus. Around 1,013 patients are said to have recovered from the virus.
Fifty new cases were reported in the country on Friday, with the ministry of health confirming the death of a 43-year-old woman.
Twenty-seven of the new cases are linked to previous cases, while eight are waiting for the results of an investigation into how they caught the disease.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that although citizens were respecting social distancing measures, more needed to be done to curb the spread of COVID-19.
According to CNBC, he said: “So far Thai people have been giving full cooperation but we need more because there was a study showing that we need to have at least 80% of social distancing from our people in order to pull the curve down.”
