More could have been done if countries had worked together to fight the coronavirus, the secretary general of the UN has said, as he warned more than 100 million people could be forced into poverty and hunger due to a lack of international “unity”.

It comes as a further 150 people died after contracting the virus in the UK, along with an additional 16,171 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, more than half of England - 28 million people - has been placed under heightened coronavirus restrictions.
