For more than two months, worshippers across India have had to find alternative ways of praying. The country went into a strict national lockdown in March when the confirmed Covid-19 caseload was in the hundreds.

During this period, shopping malls, restaurants, and many offices were also shut to limit the spread of the disease in dense urban centres such as Mumbai and Delhi.

Now, in a bid to return to a semblance of normality, the government has announced that all these venues will re-open from 8 June, with guidelines including no edible offerings at temples and air conditioning set to 24C.

In order to limit the spread of the coronavirus, the Health Ministry has banned “choir or singing groups” and the sprinkling of holy water in religious spaces of worship.

The proposals include staggered work hours to limit the amount of people congregating in high volumes at one time.

All of the these places will remain closed in containment zones, with only essential services allowed.

Here's the rest of today’s good news:

  • Over in Thailand, enforced social distancing could see invitation capacity reduced by 50 per cent for weddings to be allowed to resume, according to the Wedding and Dress Entrepreneurs Association.  Wedding facility providers may even have to start using metal detectors and thermal guns on arriving guests to check if they are infected.

  • Alok Sharma, the Business Secretary, has said the Oxford University clinic trial is progressing well, and if it proves successful, the doses could be ready by the end of summer. He said he was “very proud” of how quickly British scientists and researchers have “come together in their efforts developing a vaccine.”

  • An NHS nurse put his hand on his heart in thanks to colleagues today, as he finally left hospital after a seven-week battle with Covid-19. Orlando Fulgencio, who works at Eastbourne District General Hospital in East Sussex, was wheeled out to huge applause from staff who lined the corridors to celebrate his “remarkable recovery”.

  • Two government-funded orchestras in Germany- The Stuttgart State Orchestra and the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra- are organising one-on-one concerts in which a single orchestra member plays for one audience member in isolation. Concertgoers are designated a 10 minute slot in one of 27 sites around Stuttgart with no knowledge of the music they are about to hear, before a player sits opposite them and play selected pieces.
