Coronavirus: Scotland's chief medical officer forced to step back from public briefings after breaking lockdown to visit second home

Scotland's chief medical officer Catherine Calderwood has been forced to step back from public briefings on the country’s response to coronavirus after she broke her own advice on social distancing.

Police issued a warning to Ms Calderwood on Sunday after she ignored lockdown guidance designed to slow the spread of Covid-19 when she visited her second home this weekend and last.

Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s first minister, said the top health official would no longer take part in the media briefings on the campaign to tackle the virus.
