Project Restart latest

The final official Project Restart meeting of the week takes place today after clubs unanimously agreed to plans to return to close-contact training.

In a vote held on Wednesday, Premier League clubs agreed to implement the next stage of a return to action, based on the 'Elite sport return to training guidance: Stage Two' guidelines issued earlier this week by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Clubs approved the protocols during the shareholders’ video-call after another encouraging weekend for Germany’s Bundesliga and promising results from the first two rounds of centralised coronavirus testing.

In a statement, the league said: "Premier League shareholders today voted unanimously to resume contact training, marking another step towards restarting the Premier League season, when safe to do so."

Clubs will reconvene today to discuss the broader details of Project Restart, including how a curtailment of the 2019-20 season would work if that course of action is required. The use of home or neutral venues will be another topic of discussion.
