Coronation Street's Daniel Osbourne does some dangerous detective work next week, as he starts investigating Pat Phelan's flats scam and gets a sinister warning about Michael Rodwell's mysterious death.

Daniel has Phelan (Connor McIntyre) in his sights as he tries to liven up his new job as a reporter for the Weatherfield Gazette, annoyed that his editor is only giving him boring stories to report on.

When Daniel overhears Yasmeen Nazir complaining about the Calcutta Street flats scam, he realises this would make a brilliant story for the local paper – and his editor Cindy agrees.

Desperate to impress his boss, Daniel dares to ask Phelan (Connor McIntyre) for a comment on the scandal – forcing him to repeat his same old lies about how he was scammed by Vinny Ashford.

When Daniel then asks Phelan's enemy Anna Windass (Debbie Rush) for her insight, she anxiously warns him to stop digging if he doesn't want to end up dead like Michael did.

While this would be enough to put most people off, Daniel is undeterred and sets off on a brand new lead, which takes him to a nursing home for a mysterious visit.

When Phelan follows Daniel there, he's shocked by what he finds and later confronts his new nemesis in private, threatening to hurt him if he doesn't back off. Will Daniel listen?

Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel, revealed: "The worst thing that Daniel thinks that Phelan has done is scam people, so in terms of his threat level, he sees Phelan as an opportunist who tried to make away with a lot of people's money.

"Daniel doesn't really listen to Anna, because it is a very dramatic statement that she makes. At first Daniel thinks of it as being more personal gripes between those two and that she's throwing mud at Phelan. Daniel doesn't realise how much danger he actually is in with Phelan.

"You know when there is a fly that just won't stop? It's like that relationship at the minute. Phelan is the waterhog and Daniel is the little bluebottle that keeps flying around his head. Inevitably he is something that needs to be swatted."

Rob continued: "When Daniel goes to the nursing home, that lights a fire underneath Phelan. Up until that point, Phelan just thinks he is a student writing a little piece, but when Daniel goes to the nursing home, Phelan panics."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
