Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has admitted that she was "dreading" her on-screen fountain fight with co-star Catherine Tyldesley.

The pair's characters Maria Connor and Eva Price take centre stage in dramatic scenes with a dramatic catfight in tonight's double bill, inspired by the famous Dynasty lily pond battle between Krystal and Alexis.

Earlier this week, Maria caused a stir by interrupting Eva's wedding to Aidan and exposing her love rival's pregnancy as a lie.

Tonight, we'll see Eva make Maria pay for her actions by pushing her into a fountain at the venue – with the stunned wedding guests all watching on.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at a Coronation Street press day, Samia explained: "The fight was so much fun, actually. I was dreading it beforehand, because of the pressure to get it right. I couldn't envisage how it was going to work.

"But on the day, the director just gave us the freedom to do whatever we wanted to do. There was pretty much no direction in the fight, everything you see is ad-libbed. It was brilliant fun."

Revealing the slightly less fun moments of the fight, Samia laughed: "The worst thing for me was that she grabbed my hair and shoved my head into the water. It wasn't a nice thing to happen, I won't lie!

"The worst thing I did was rip her hair extensions out and throw her tiara away! I tried to dunk her in the water, but it was hard with that wedding dress in the way – it was massive."

Samia also reflected on Maria's big moment in ruining the wedding, admitting that viewers will be divided over whose side they're on.

She said: "Even though Maria and Aidan aren't together anymore and she's closed the book on their affair, she still cares for him. She wanted him to know the truth – that the woman he's marrying wasn't the person he thought she was.

"The big reveal was really good. It was everything I imagined it should be, because the affair has been a real slow-burner. It's not just been a flash in the pan and it meant a lot to Maria because she did absolutely love Aidan. So for it to culminate the way it did was brilliant.

"The great thing that Corrie do with the writing is that you feel sorry for all of the characters at some point and you also feel frustrated with them all too.

"All of them have done something wrong, but they've also been wronged. It's up to you guys as the audience to choose whose team you're on."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
