Coronation Street boss Kate Oates might be throwing out all the stops at the moment, but not every storyline goes down well with every fan.

While a little debate is always welcome, Kate has admitted to The Mirror that it often descends into straight-up trolling – and that's not okay.

Thankfully, Kate has learned to take the rough with the smooth and has opened up about her experience with online trolls, and her solution is pretty admirable.

When life gives you lemons and all that.

"[Online abuse] used to upset me, then I began to get used to it," she admitted.

"Sometimes it's very funny, sometimes it's hurtful and sometimes it's really good criticism and constructive and you think, 'I should have thought of that!'"

Philosophical about the debate her recent storylines have sometimes generated, Kate added: "But people are talking about this show which is great."

And one of those storylines involves the beloved Carla Connor, who's officially heading back to the cobbles to save Underworld. (We hope.)

Conceding that Carla's popularity with fans 'exhausted' Alison King, the Corrie boss recently revealed that she'll be making sure Alison's workload isn't as heavy a second time around.

"I'd sign her up forever. Hopefully she's happy. And it's my job to make sure she doesn't feel exhausted like she did last time, because you want longevity from characters.

"It's really hard when people are cursed by their own popularity, if you like. They are played in every storyline and that's hard, especially when you're on six episodes a week," she said.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
