Cast members from Coronation Street have paid a surprise visit to a survivor of the Manchester terror attack that happened a year ago, and the results were heartwarming.

In assiciation with ITV, who aired the NHS Heroes Awards last night – a programme comemorating those who work in healthcare and display acts of selflessness – Manchester bombing survivor Freya Lewis was one of the recipients.

After being present at the concert herself and suffering injuries that left her in a wheelchair for three months, the youngster went on to raise an incredible £40,000 for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital once she was able to walk again.

Suffice to say, the entire event was an emotional one, especially when focus shifted to Freya. She lost her best friend, Nell, in last year’s Manchester Arena attack but it was what happened before the awards bash that melted everyone’s hearts.

Viewers got to see a touching video of how the cast of Corrie surprised her in a hidden camera set-up.

When Freya thought she and her family were going out for a normal dinner, little did she know that some of the legendary soap’s cast – Jack P. Shepherd, Lucy Fallon, Connor McIntyre, and Julia Goulding – would turn up at the same restaurant to petend to act out a scene from the show.

Naturally, Corrie fan Freya instantly noticed them.

Just as she was hyperventaliating from being so starstruck, the cast suddenly broke from character and ‘recognised’ her.

‘After surviving the Manchester Arena bombing, Freya Lewis has gone on to raise over £40,000 for @RMCHosp’s charity. What a brave and inspirational young woman #NHSHeroesAwards #NHS70 @NHSEngland’, an ITV tweet read, which showed the whole VT.

After surprsing her, the cast took Freya to the Corrie set for a tour, and Kym Marsh revealed she was to get an award at the ceremony – which was presented by One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson.

Since regaining the abiltiy to walk and leaving the wheelchair behind, Freya plans to partake in the Great Manchester Run next week.
