Yahoo News Corrie drama as Gary 'death' letter is dropped tonight
Gary Windass's big secret comes under serious threat on Coronation Street tonight (August 18), just as he's preparing to leave for his dangerous trip.
The local builder has agreed to take on a very risky security job in the Ukraine, but has spared his girlfriend Sarah (Tina O'Brien) any worry by lying that he's off to Hamburg to work with his dad for a while.
In tonight's Corrie double bill, Gary's ex Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) discovers his secret when she spots him collecting a certificate of health from the medical centre.
Gary explains that he's putting himself in danger in a desperate bid to clear his debts – but it's obvious how worried he is when he gives her some letters to hand over to his loved ones if anything happens to him and he never comes home.
Later on, Gary is just about to leave for the airport when careless Alya accidentally drops the letter marked "Sarah".
Does this mean that Sarah will get to read Gary's heartbreaking words before he goes? And if so, how she will feel about his secrecy?
Speaking about this storyline recently, Mikey North – who plays Gary – revealed that his character will ultimately go ahead with the trip.
Mikey also confirmed that Gary does return alive, but we'll see that his time in the Ukraine takes its toll on him – especially in light of his previous experiences in the army and the post-traumatic stress he suffered afterwards.
Mikey explained: "Gary is going to come back a bit troubled and things are going to happen out there that he's not going to let on to anyone to start with, even with Sarah.
"The audience will see what is going on. Then things will gradually keep getting worse. He keeps coming back with horror stories."
Coronation Street airs tonight (August 18) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
