Coronation Street is once again being put on the bench so that football can be shown on ITV.

As we all know, Corrie usually airs at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on a Friday – but the soap will be substituted on ITV on September 1 to make way for the World Cup qualifiers.

The Malta vs England game will be shown at 7.15pm on that Friday through the evening until 10pm. Emmerdale will be airing at the earlier time of 6.45pm as a result.

Of course, this is not the first time football has interrupted the soap schedules – with last summer's Euro 2016 leaving many fans up in arms over all the disruption.

It's not all bad news, though, as Corrie and Emmerdale are commissioned for a set number of episodes each year, so it always balances out in the long-run.

Viewers will have to keep their eyes peeled for more news on Corrie's rearranged schedule date, but the soap is currently gearing up to air six times a week – so there will soon be more Weatherfield action than ever before.

Coronation Street continues tomorrow night (August 18) at 7.30pm on ITV.
