Coronation Street will kick of Bethany Platt's lap-dancing story next week as Craig Tinker starts to become suspicious of her secretive behaviour.
Tabloid reports revealed last year that Bethany (Lucy Fallon) would turn to lap-dancing in the aftermath of her harrowing grooming ordeal at the hands of Nathan Curtis.
Although life appeared to be looking up for Bethany over Christmas when she began a tentative romance with her best friend Craig, upcoming scenes will explore the devastating impact Nathan's abuse has had on her.
Despite agreeing to take it slowly, Craig can't help but get his hopes up next week when Bethany invites him round to hers – revealing that they'll have the house to themselves.
A nervous Craig is thrilled when he arrives at Bethany's to see her dressed sexily, only to be left bemused when she tells him that she's nipping upstairs to change.
Craig is forced to hide his disappointment when Bethany emerges in a tracksuit and flicks on the TV instead, but unfortunately, that is just the start of the young couple's problems.
Craig suffers further disappointment when Bethany pulls out of attending Sinead and Chesney's wedding with him – explaining that she has to help Audrey in the salon.
However, Craig is left feeling hurt when he later finds out that Bethany lied to him and isn't expected in the salon that day after all.
After tracking Bethany down in the café, Craig is confused to find her with a girl called Sam – who she claims to have met on a victim's forum.
Bethany explains that her meeting with Sam is the real reason she lied to Craig, but it quickly becomes clear that's not the truth either.
With Craig out of the way, Bethany and Sam discuss their secret jobs and hiding them from their families, but how long can Bethany keep this from her loved ones?
Confirming that Bethany will be turning to lap-dancing in a shock new story, Lucy Fallon – who plays her – explained: "Bethany does get a job at the strip club, and for Bethany it's a thing to say that she has control over what those men can do to her, so they can't touch her and they can't do anything to her."
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, January 8, Wednesday, January 10 and Friday, January 12 on ITV.
