Coronation Street actress Sair Khan, who rose to fame portraying Alya Nazir on the ITV soap since 2014, has confirmed her return to filming months after her character's exit. Earlier this year, it was announced that Alya would be leaving the show as Sair took maternity leave in real life, welcoming her baby boy in April.

During her time on the show, Alya was involved in several major storylines, including a potential romance with her boss Adam Barlow (played by Sam Robertson), which she ultimately turned down for a work opportunity in Dublin.

However, on Wednesday (September 11), Sair delighted fans by announcing her return to the set on Instagram. She posted a picture of her script with the caption "I'm Backstreet".

The news of Sair's comeback sparked excitement among viewers, with many speculating about what could be in store for her character Alya, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Fans took to social media to share their theories, with many suggesting that Alya and Adam might finally become a couple. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: "Wonder if Alya and Adam will get back together."

"Brilliant his girlfriend is back," another added, while a third wrote: "Adam and Alya are sooo getting together then."

In April, Sair Khan became a mum after enduring a 22-hour labour with her partner Nathan Chilton, an experience she referred to as an "absolute rollercoaster".

Sharing the news on Instagram, Sair announced: "He's here! Okay, when I said 'Spring awakening' in my last post I didn't mean 'keep' me awake. The new parent zombie look is definitely a thing isn't it."

She continued: "More importantly our little boy is just marvellous. Very serious and curious about the world. He's super strong and so resilient for joining me on the absolute rollercoaster that was our 22 hours of labour. We didn't quite get the birth I'd hoped for but that's okay (two birth pools, no water birth)."

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
