Yahoo News Corrie lines up shock child abuse accusations for Mary
Coronation Street's Mary Taylor faces another backlash from her family next week, as she stands accused of harming her grandson George.
Mary (Patti Clare) is only just building bridges with her son Jude and daughter-in-law Angie when suspicion arises that she could be deliberately hurting their young son.
When Mary is allowed to babysit George again next week, he falls ill yet again and has to be taken to the hospital.
The doctor points out that it's strange for George to only become unwell whenever he's with Mary, which is enough to send alarm bells ringing for the Appletons.
Mary is horrified as Jude and Angie both turn against her, demanding to know what she's done to their son.
Deeply upset by the hurtful accusations, Mary assures them that she would never harm George, but Angie doesn't believe her.
Things only get worse when two public protection officers call at Number 7 and question Mary about George's health. Can Mary find a way to prove her innocence?
Victoria Ekanoye, who plays Angie, revealed: "The baby is really sick and even the professionals don't know at this point what's wrong. Mary is the common denominator – every time he is with her, he gets sick.
"Someone looking from the outside in would deduce that she is the catalyst, so Angie thinks this isn't really that far fetched.
"Also, the fact that Angie has moved away from her amazing life in South Africa makes her even more keen for it to be Mary's fault, because then maybe she will get her old life, her son and her husband back."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
