Police investigating the disappearance of Corrie McKeague have released CCTV images of four men they believe were the last to see the RAF airman the night he went missing.

The 23-year-old, who was based at RAF Honington in Suffolk, vanished after a night out with friends in Bury St Edmunds on September 24, 2016.

CCTV of his final moments showed him entering a bin loading bay in the area, but so far officers have failed to find him.

Detectives rifled through 6,500 tonnes of waste over 20 weeks at a nearby landfill site earlier this month, but abandoned the search despite believing his remains where somewhere on the site.

Suffolk Police on Thursday released a series on new CCTV images showing four men they would like to speak to.

Officers said they believe the group were the last to see Mr McKeague before he disappeared. None of the men are being treated as suspects, police said.

To mark a year since his disappearance, police have set up a ‘police pod’ in the town centre in the hope that somebody comes forward with information.

Detective Superintendent Katie Elliott said: " It is fair to say that a year on from him going missing, we never thought we would be in this position of not yet locating Corrie or establishing exactly what happened to him.

“We have always wanted to provide answers to Corrie’s family about what happened to him.

“The search for Corrie remains an active investigation.

“We would appeal directly to the public who were out in Bury St Edmunds exactly 12 months ago on the night he went missing and maybe a year on are once again back in the town centre this weekend.”

Police said Mr McKeague had a history of falling asleep in unusual places, including in bins.

A bin lorry was seen on CCTV near Brentgovel Street in Bury St Edmunds around the time Mr McKeague was last seen, and it took a route which appeared to coincide with the movements of his phone.

The bin lorry linked to the disappearance of Mr McKeague was initially thought to have collected an 11kg (1st 10lb) load, but police said it was later found to be more than 100kg (15st 10lb).
