Coronation Street jolted viewers on Monday (November 13) with revelation of Billy Mayhew's troubled past.

The last several weeks have seen Billy's (Daniel Brocklebank) dark side emerge, first when he handed himself after police for attacking Peter Barlow - a decision that came back to bite him in Monday's episode.

When Billy was briefly in police custody, he submitted to fingerprints that have since been connected by police to a burned-out car used in an unsolved robbery all the way back in 2001.

Billy was able to hold police off temporarily - taking solicitor Adam Barlow's (Sam Robertson) advice to not answer any questions - but the truth came pouring out when the vicar was finally alone with partner Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley).

In a shocking revelation, Billy revealed that he'd long kept hidden his involvement in a horrific armed robbery and a car crash that seemingly left an unknown woman dead, both of which tie into the unsolved case that police are investigating.

"Todd, you don't know me. Not really. You never have," a tearful Billy admitted. "I might go down for this."

The revelation clearly rocked Todd to his core (although he's resolved to stick it out with Billy for now), while viewers also were going through a range of emotion on social media:
