Corrie star becomes first-time dad at 17 years old

Alex Bain, who’s been playing Simon Barlow on Coronation Street since 2008, is now a dad to a baby girl. The 17-year-old actor welcomed daughter Lydia-Rose with 16-year-old girlfriend Levi Selby on Monday (November 4).

A source told The Sun: “They are absolutely over the moon — it’s the greatest gift they could have hoped for this Christmas.”

The birth comes just one week after Bain turned 17, and months after the teen sat his GCSEs. He was forced to deny rumours back in August that he had split up with a then heavily pregnant Selby.

He wrote on Facebook: “I’m still with my girlfriend, and can’t wait to have my own little family!”

Selby, who has a non-private Facebook account, has regularly updated her page with baby scans and pregnancy updates. She also shared an image on Monday evening of her newborn as her new cover photo.

Selby formerly announced her pregnancy back in May on Facebook, and a source told The Sun at the time: “Alex has been telling everyone he’s going to be a father. He isn’t keeping it a secret. It’s hard to tell if he’s happy about it or not but he’s definitely not ashamed of it.”

Bain shot to fame as a child star on Coronation Street as Simon Barlow, Peter Barlow’s son who arrived on the Street in 2008 after his mother, Lucy Barlow, passed away from cancer.

For several years Simon was portrayed as a sweet and endearing child, but recently has turned into a troubled teenager. He’s been involved in several shocking Coronation Street storylines, including physically abusing his stepmother Leanne Battersby, stealing money and forcing Summer Spellman to smoke cigarettes – which turned out to be drug-laced.
