Coronation Street star Christopher Harper has promised that his evil character Nathan Curtis will get his comeuppance – and leave the show.
Nathan has been part of the ITV soap's cast for four months now and is currently at the centre of a dark child grooming storyline.
In recent weeks, viewers have seen Nathan enter into a relationship with Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), concerning her family given that he's twice her age.
Nathan is also secretly planning to pimp out Bethany to his friends, but she's currently oblivious to his sinister intentions.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media about the story's future, Chris has now confirmed that Nathan doesn't have a long-term future on the cobbles.
While the storyline still has a while left to run, we won't be seeing a redemption for the character or any attempts to integrate him into the Street.
Chris explained: "He's not going to hang around. It's the right decision. What we really want is to tell it right. Anyone watching it who fears for themselves or someone else, will know that there is somewhere to go and that there's a very supportive and very loving network of survivors out there who will help you get through it.
"For that reason, I think it's really important that Nathan doesn't get away with it."
He continued: "I couldn't imagine a place for him in Coronation Street, it'd just be wrong. Especially if later on he got a romance and people went 'aww he used to be really dodgy but he's nice now'. No, he's gotta go down."
Chris also hinted that Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) could be involved in Nathan's downfall further on down the line. The two characters have a disturbing connection, as Nathan is the abusive boyfriend from Shona's past.
He said: "Shona has got scars and various signs of damage that she has taken from her time with Nathan, but she escaped.
"There was an episode recently where she was out for a drink with Gail and she's going 'Oh Bethany's got a boyfriend called Nathan, how old is he?' Gail says 'Oh, about 19' and she thinks 'Phew - thank God for that, at least it's not that Nathan who used to burn me with cigarettes.' I think the clock is ticking on that one."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
