Corrie star was delighted by Sophie Webster's sexuality

Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent has said she was delighted when she learned about her character Sophie Webster's sexuality.

The actress – who is gearing up to compete in the revival series of Dancing on Iceopened up about the reaction she's had from Sophie's storyline, admitting that she didn't realise the impact it would have on viewers.

Speaking on Loose Women today (January 3), Brooke said: "The day they said to me, 'We're going to make your character a lesbian', I absolutely loved it. So many years on, you see so many people who say, 'You really helped me'.

"You don't understand that when you take that on. You don't understand the impact it's going to have. I am just lucky enough to go and do my job."

Brooke is one of several celebrities taking to the ice rink on Sunday night (January 7) and the soap star has admitted that she's "really, really nervous".

"I left home yesterday to travel down [to London]", she said. "My boyfriend took me to the train station and I was like, 'Please don't let them take me! Just say I'm poorly!'

"Anything can happen. I don't know what's going to happen and that's what I was saying, when I fall, I don't know I'm going to fall, so I could fall on Sunday!"

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
