Coronation Street star Jo-Anne Knowles hopes viewers will start to empathise with her unhinged character Chloe Tipton as the stalker story progresses.
Viewers know that creepy Chloe has taken a very sinister interest in a taken Peter Barlow – who has had to repeatedly reject her out of loyalty to his partner Toyah Battersby.
Chloe has even stepped her schemes up a gear by falsely accused Peter of assaulting her the night before Ken's attack, determined to punish him for rejecting her latest advances. However, Jo-Anne reckons that her alter-ego has simply been mistreated by men one too many times.
"I've loved the part from the day I got the first script through, and I've never been disappointed," she told Inside Soap.
"She'll probably come across as a bit Fatal Attraction to some people, but I feel she's more of a woman scorned who's sick of men. She's a woman of a certain age and she's going through a very messy divorce, and she has no idea what her future holds.
"Peter came in, made her feel good about herself, and then just walked away – I think that's what made her angry. He's the straw that broke the camel's back and I do hope people empathise with her situation."
Ironically, Jo-Anne is actually backing Peter's relationship with Toyah – which is set to be hit by more hurdles next week when his past misdemeanours with Chloe come to light.
"I like couples who have that electricity, like Peter and Carla or Peter and Tina," the actress explained.
"But what I have really liked watching is the Peter and Toyah relationship. That's a lovely one – so it's a shame I'm trying to destroy it!"
