Coronation Streetvillain Pat Phelan just got a whole lot worse - murdering poor old Andy Carver in cold blood.

The two men have been at war for weeks now, but Friday night's double bill (January 20) saw their feud come to a head in explosive and violent scenes.

Phelan finished Andy off by brutally attacking him with a laptop, just as the barman was planning to flee to Portugal with his girlfriend Steph Britton.

Oliver Farnworth's departure from the role of Andy had been common knowledge for weeks - but Corrie bosses managed to avoid any leaks from the set revealing that his character would be killed off.

Speaking about his exit for the first time, Oliver revealed: "It was bittersweet, because as much as no-one likes to leave any lovely job with amazing people, when the storylines were pitched to me I thought: 'What a great challenge, what a way to go'.

"It has been amazing and when I filmed my last scene in The Rovers it all got a bit emotional. I will miss the job and I will miss the work, but on the flipside I will miss the Coronation Street family the most and I will always carry those memories of great times with me.

"It is like a real family. You don't have to see them all the time, but you can reunite with them further down the line. I am looking forward to keeping in touch with everyone."

Andy also has the dubious honour of being the first proper victim of Pat Phelan.

Phelan did indirectly cause Michael Rodwell's death by failing to get help for him when he suffered a heart attack, but this is the first time he's actually committed murder.

Oliver added: "Obviously Michael was Phelan's first victim inadvertently as far as the fact that he didn't help him, he left him there! So Andy goes up against him to avenge Michael's death and he does his best, he tries! But I feel honoured to be on the list of Phelan's victims and one of his first."

Phelan managed to cover up Andy's tragic demise (at least for now) by moving his body and stealing his phone - sneakily sending a fake text to Steph revealing that he wouldn't be going to Portugal with her.

Heartbroken by the message, Steph then made her own exit from Corrie by heading off abroad without Andy - totally oblivious to her boyfriend's terrible fate.

So with Andy and Steph both off his back, the path was clear for Phelan to tie the knot with his fiancée Eileen Grimshaw at the registry office - turning up worryingly late after the day's dramatic events.

Eileen is now officially Mrs Phelan, but how long will it take before she finally sees his true colours? And Phelan ever strike again? Only time will tell...

Coronation Street continues on Monday (January 23) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm, as Phelan continues his attempts to cover his tracks.
