Coronation Street aired a massive twist tonight (August 18), as it was revealed that Andy Carver (Oliver Farnworth) is still alive.

Viewers haven't seen Andy since January, when he was attacked by villain Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre) – and we've all been led to believe that Pat murdered Andy.

But tonight, Pat was seen heading to a derelict house and making his way into the basement for a "flying visit".

He started chatting away to his captive about being at a crossroads and the difference between being good and bad.

When he left, his desperate hostage shouted "Wait!" and tried to follow Phelan, but was held back by the chains around his ankles.

We then saw that it was in fact a dishevelled Andy who was tied up.

There have been no hints that Andy is still alive, so viewers got a major surprise when he was seen again tonight.

And their reactions suggest that the wait was worth it:

We'll have to wait to find out what happens to Andy next – but Oliver Farnworth, who plays Andy, has shared some interesting info about the story.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
