Chesney Brown's anxiety came to a head in tonight's (August 23) Coronation Street, when he had a massive panic attack while he was out with Hope and Ruby.

He has been suffering in silence since he was stabbed by Rich at the Bistro last month, quitting his job and struggling to leave the house.

Today, Chesney (Sam Aston) managed to leave the house with the girls and take them into town, but then his anxiety took over and he ran off the bus, leaving them on their own.

Viewers felt sorry for Chesney and praised the soap for showing how bad panic attacks and PTSD can be.

Still, viewers couldn't believe he actually left the kids on the bus.

Ending on a really tense – and sad – cliffhanger, the last moments saw Chesney standing on the canal edge, sending viewers into a right panic themselves.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
