Corrie's Bethany hits the bottle after rape as Nathan escapes grooming charges

Bethany Platt turns to alcohol after she finds out that her abuser Nathan Carter will not be charged for grooming her.

In scenes that will air this week as part of the latest development in the soap’s hard-hitting grooming plot, the teenager is left devastated and in floods of tears when the police tell her mum Sarah that there isn’t enough evidence to bring in Nathan.

Sarah has a plan to enlist Neil to get answers out of Nathan, but she is not aware that he is part of the grooming gang and had raped Bethany too.

There is a slither of hope as florist Mary vows to help Bethany, and last week she confronted the sexual predator in a heated row before he took off with the teenager.

But actor Chris Harper, who plays Nathan, insisted there will be justice for Bethany, who blames herself for Nathan getting away with his evil crimes.

“It’s so hard to discover, for Bethany, that someone she thinks she loves is being cruel. That’s going to be the next turn of the story, following Bethany’s strength and courage in discovering and then facing what’s happened to her.

“We’ll see him go to trial, that’s a really important thing to see,” he told Press Association.
