Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street's Steve McDonald has been a constant source of support for Leanne Battersby regarding Oliver, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of mitochondrial disease.
The family were told by the doctor that there was nothing more that they could do and the best course of action was to turn off Oliver's life support, a decision that Leanne decided to contest in court with Steve's backing.
But scenes next week will see the judge agree with the doctor's decision, and Steve makes the heartbreaking decision that it is best to let Oliver go.
Speaking about Leanne's reaction to Steve changing his mind, actress Jane Danson said: "She's absolutely bereft – she breaks down and is practically on her hands and knees, begging him to change his mind.
"It's a really long scene where he tries to explain himself, and all his reasons are valid. She goes into defence mode, and says, 'You wouldn't understand – I carried him and you didn't.'
"But while Steve may not have physically bore a child, he is Oliver's dad and has the same feelings for him, only now he thinks they're at the point of no return."
Looking forward, Jane said she would like Leanne and Nick Tilsley's relationship to survive, but feels like it may not. She also feels like this experience has changed Leanne forever, and it'll be interesting to see where she goes from here.
Coronation Street will these powerful scenes beginning Monday, November 9, Wednesday, November 11 and Friday, November 13 on ITV.
