Cosby Show and Thundercats actor dies, aged 91

Actor Earle Hyman has died at the age of 91.

The star was best known for his work on The Cosby Show, where he played obstetrician Cliff's dad Russell, aka Grandpa Huxtable, from 1984 to 1992.

He will also be remembered for his work on Thundercats, where he used his classic baritone voice to voice the part of Panthro in the cartoon series for 125 episodes from 1985 to 1989.

Hyman died on Friday (November 17) at his home in Englewood, New Jersey.

His death was confirmed by his nephew Rick Ferguson (via The Hollywood Reporter) after being initially reported by Broadway Black.

A veteran of stage and screen, Hyman portrayed William Shakespeare's Othello hundreds of times.

He also played Macbeth and Camillo from A Winter's Tale in respective TV movies, and appeared on broadway in over 15 different productions.

He even received a Tony nomination for Featured Actor In A Play for his performance as Oscar in the original 1980 production of Edward Albee's The Lady From Dubuque.

Hyman had no children, and is survived by his nephew Rick and Derryl, as well as his nieces Cassandra, Yvette and Monica.
