Cosy Christmas carol evening taking over Penny Lane
A cosy Christmas carol evening will take place on Penny Lane this festive season, featuring community carol singing and performances from local musicians. The event has been organised by family-owned Bean There Coffee Shop, which sits on the corner of Penny Lane closest to Allerton Road.
After a successful event in 2023, the team from Bean There will be hosting another carol evening on Thursday, December 12, starting at 4:30pm. Local musicians will perform when the event gets started, before community carol singing from 5:30pm onwards, which will be led by Cornerstone Church and Penny Lane Church.
There will also be craft stalls featuring local artisans, plus an appearance from Santa Claus later in the evening. Bean There will also be serving up festive food and drinks for anyone attending the event to enjoy.

Speaking to the ECHO, Candice said: "Carols around the tree began a few years ago when I first organised the Christmas tree to sit outside St Barnabas church. I was chatting to Steve from Dovedale Church and he agreed to help me organise a community event and lead some carol singing. This event has now evolved to include both Dovedale Church and Alex from Penny Lane Church as well as locals schools and music groups.
"Richard Kemp and Liverpool City Council now kindly provide the tree which we decorate and each year I try and add a few new elements to the event, inviting schools and music groups to do performances, local crafters to have stalls and Santa for children to come and visit. It is a lovely relaxed community event where people can come and indulge in Christmas spirit. I have had several messages recently asking when it is on, so I’m delighted that it has become an annual event."
The popular south Liverpool coffee shop and kitchen is famous for its delicious sausage rolls and baked goods, as well as its range of teas and coffees. This year, Bean There celebrated its seventh birthday - and the business has gone from strength to strength. Bean There recently got involved in the city's incredible fundraising efforts to help save Zoe's Place, with a competition for customers to win a year of free coffees if they donated to the charity.
Family owned and operated, the business was opened by husband and wife duo Candice and Andrew Mulligan. Running the business around family life, the couple are also parents to four boys.
With festive preparations in full swing at the store, Bean There is also offering a range of Christmas goodies for customers to enjoy this year, including special desserts, hampers and gifts. Customers can place advance orders for treats like a Christmas Basque cheesecake, a dark chocolate and salted caramel tart or a Black Forest gateau.
Bean There is also offering Christmas boxes, including a £28 Christmas Eve box for two which includes handmade sausage rolls, mince pies and hot chocolate sets. Or for anyone wanted to start their Christmas morning with a hearty breakfast, the £25 box features pastries, sourdough and granola, plus fresh orange juice.
