Could this be the 2019 Porsche 911?

An undisguised image of the rear of what seems to be the next generation Porsche 911 has surfaced on Instagram.

The "992" 911 will likely be an evolution of the existing 991 car. This arrived in 2011, with a facelift in 2015 that brought range-wide turbocharging to the classic six-cylinder boxer engines, with the exception of GT3 models.

Even from the rear shot alone, we can see that there's a number of changes compared to the current 991.2 model. That includes a new lower bumper and different tail lights. The new connecting strip between the rear lights hints at the 992 incorporating something similar to the new Audi OLED rear light technology. There's also a much wider rear spoiler that covers most of the car's back end, and may form part of an active aerodynamics package. These styling touches are all consistent with previously spotted test mules, lending an air of authenticity to the image, which has since been deleted.

The car is due to reach the market in 2019, but is likely to officially break cover on the 2018 motor show circuit. Given that it seems to be in a production-ready form, that could mean it appear as soon as the Geneva Motor Show in March. As Geneva will see Porsche unveil the 991.2 GT3 RS, it may not reveal the next generation car until later in the year though.

This generation of 911 will probably see some major changes. A 48V mild hybrid system, similar to the one you'll find elsewhere within the wider Volkswagen Group, has been mooted. A full hybrid, albeit a plug-in (PHEV), is likely to follow after the car's initial launch.
