Deadpool clearly isn't afraid of going meta - after all, this is the film that saw lead actor Ryan Reynolds's real-life status as 'Sexiest Man Alive' visually appear on screen.
And of course, there was that famous line about Deadpool having to "fondle the balls" of somebody whose name "rhymes with Polverine" to get his own movie.
But it turns out that scriptwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick aren't afraid of taking things even further, by floating the idea of landing
Wolverine Hugh Jackman to cameo as himself in Deadpool's sequel.
When the idea is raised by The Hollywood Reporter during a recent interview, Reese said: "Oh my gosh, that's one we haven't heard. That's not a bad idea. I like that.
"Deadpool lives in a world where Hugh Jackman is out there. He's got the People's Sexiest Man Alive cover that he staples to his forehead in the first movie, so maybe he could meet Hugh as Hugh.
"That would be really funny."
If you're eager for more of the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool 2 is looking at a 2018 release and apparently the writers are "very close to a draft that we'll go off and shoot in a couple of months".
But that doesn't mean they're in any rush, as Reese explained.
"We don't want to put the cart before the horse, and often times with release dates that happens," he said.
"You end up racing and you end up being forced to do something you're not happy with and the great thing about Deadpool is we spent a career trying to duck other movies.
"I think in most cases, people are going to have to duck us. Fox is probably going to be able to drop that thing on a date and everyone else is going to scatter, because no one will want to come out the same weekend.
"We just want to make the best movie possible and Deadpool will find an audience."
So there you have it - Deadpool 2 is coming soon-ish, just as soon as the writers have made it as awesome as possible.
But if you want more of Reese and Wernick, and Ryan Reynolds for that matter, you can always check out their latest film, Life.
Also starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson, the film tells the story of a group of astronauts who find the first evidence of life away from Earth.
And if you want to enjoy Deadpool's Hugh Jackman impression, just give this teaser trailer a watch.
