A council's recycling team has asked people not to put one item in their recycling bags. Swansea Recycles has reminded residents that tissues, kitchen roll and paper napkins are not to be recycled with normal paper and card, which are collected twice monthly in Swansea in green recycling bags.

The team explained that this type of paper was produced using very short fibres, meaning it's not recyclable, and instead needs to be put into black bag bins for disposal.

And it also pointed out that with cold and flu season "in full swing" the tissues were "normally contaminated by bodily fluids, food, or liquid". Never miss a Swansea story by signing up to our newsletter here.

The recycling team in a statement said: "With cold and flu season now in full swing please remember that used tissues, kitchen roll and paper napkins are not able to be recycled with normal paper and card. This is because the type of 'paper' used to produce them is made using very short fibres which are not high enough quality to be recycled further. They are also normally contaminated by bodily fluids, food, liquid etc which also makes them unrecyclable. Please place these items in your black bag bin for disposal only."
