Council celebrates care leavers with plaque and tree planting ceremony
Hull City Council's Leaving Care team has planted a meaningful 'Positivitree' to show their ongoing support for young people who have been in care.
The 'Positivitrees' initiative, marking the National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum's 20th anniversary, involves more than 130 local authority leaving care teams collaborating to share best practice and enhance services for those with experience in care.
Each local authority is encouraged to plant a tree and install a plaque to symbolise their dedication to nurturing the growth and thriving of care-experienced youth while expanding their local offerings to these individuals. Celebrating a quarter of a century since its inception, the service provides guidance and information to eligible young people between the ages of 16 and 25 as they transition into adulthood and plan for their future.

Poised among the latest features of the new Queens Gardens redevelopment, set for completion by 2025, Hull's Positivitree arrives just in time for National Care Leavers Week, an annual celebration of the successes of those leaving care.
Councillor Linda Tock, Hull City Council's portfolio holder for Children's Services, said: "This is a token of the council’s continuing commitment to our care leavers. We will continue to do our best to listen to them and help them reach their full potential."
