Council explains decision over Liam Payne memorial in Wolverhampton
A memorial honouring Liam Payne in his home city of Wolverhampton has been moved by the council. Flowers and other tributes were laid in memory of the One Direction star near the Civic Centre following his tragic death in Argentina.
Those tributes have now been moved by the city council, which has explained the reasoning behind its decision. Remembrance services are being held in the area where the tributes had been laid this weekend.
Council bosses said for that reason, the memorial to the singer had been "respectfully relocated" to the city's West Park. The authority said on X: “Ahead of Sunday and Monday’s Remembrance services at the Cenotaph, the council has respectfully relocated the tributes left in memory of Liam Payne to the bandstand at West Park.” They added: “People are welcome to leave any tributes to Liam at the memorial at the bandstand.”

The council also shared a photo of the relocated memorial which showed the floral tributes arranged into the shape of a heart on the park's bandstand. The display which also featured an England flag had photographs, hand-written notes and balloons placed in the heart.
It follows an outpouring of emotion in Liam's home city from One Direction fans as well as others who just wanted to pay their respects to the local boy who achieved global fame. In October, the 29-year-old died from multiple injuries as well as internal and external bleeding after his body was found in the hotel’s internal courtyard.
Liam's death sparked a major investigation in Argentina and this week three people were charged in connection with his death.
