Families are being told to leave their bins out - if they have not been collected on time. The message from Stoke-on-Trent City Council comes after the area remains in the grip of a freezing snap.

More snow is being forecast later today that will go through to around midnight in the Potteries. Following the heavy snowfall on Monday evening, there have been further flurries on the following two nights.

That has been set to a backdrop of freezing conditions and has impacted a number of side roads. The local authority has also today confirmed that gritters covered around 500 miles, dumping 84 tonnes of grit, overnight - with more rounds planned this evening.

Now families who haven't had their bins collected as planned are being asked to leave them out.

A spokesperson said: "Due to the adverse weather, we expect some delays to bin collections. Please leave your bins out and they will be collected as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience."
