County ambulance damaged during accident

Jan. 26—An Otsego County Ambulance was damaged during a multi-car accident on Interstate 88 Sunday.

The EMTs in the ambulance were treating a patient that was involved in a rollover accident near mile marker 73 in Worcester when it was hit by an Endicott woman driving a Chevy SUV that also hit a male from Loudonville driving a Honda SUV, Robert O'Brien, Otsego County 911 & EMS director, said.

Both crew members sustained injuries during the accident, he said. One was well enough to tend to one of the patients on the way to the hospital in the back the Schenevus volunteer ambulance, then got treated themself, he said. The Worcester volunteer and the Oneonta Fire Department also transported patients to the hospital.

O'Brien said while the weather was sunny Sunday, the wind had blown snow onto the road and made it slippery.

O'Brien said they are waiting for the insurance adjuster to give an estimate but believes the ambulance will be declared totaled. "It could take quite some time to replace it," he said.
