Couple, aged in their 60s, hospitalised after 'group attacked them' on busy Dagenham road

A couple in their 60s were left needing hospital treatment after being attacked by a group of men on a busy road on the Essex border. Police were called to reports of a robbery at Heathway in Dagenham at 6.45pm.

The Met Police said the couple had allegedly been approached by a group of men who asked for money and cigarettes. They allegedly attempted to take the woman's bag and threatened the woman with a knife.

The male victim was allegedly pushed to the ground and attacked by the group. Both were left needing hospital treatment although their injuries are not life-threatening.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: "Police were called at 18:45hrs on Thursday, 17 October to reports of a robbery at Heathway, Dagenham. Officers attended. At the scene a couple, aged 60s, had been approached by a group of males who asked for money and cigarettes and attempted to take the woman’s bag.

"The female victim was threatened with a knife and the male victim was pushed to the ground and was attacked by the group. Both received hospital treatment for injuries that were not life threatening.

"At this early stage there has been no arrest. Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone who witnessed this incident or has footage should call police on 101 or post on X @MetCC quoting 6832/17OCT.
