Couple arrested after ‘trying to sell their children for money or drugs’

A couple have been arrested on suspicion of trying to sell their children for drugs.

Vincent Calogero, 38, and Sarah Nilson, 32, from Lancaster in California, were taken into custody last week following reports of possible child abuse.

Police say they have determined that the couple tried to exchange their two sons for money or drugs.

The pair could face charges of child endangerment, child neglect and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

They are each being held on $100,000 bail.

Their sons are currently in the custody of Los Angeles County’s Department of Children and Family Services.

Officials did not reveal the ages of the two boys.

An investigation was launched last Thursday when officers were called to the couple’s home.

The local sheriff’s agency has praised the residents of Lancaster ‘who intervened in response to the danger the children were in and contacted law enforcement’.

It added: ‘We remind the public if you see something suspicious, say something.’

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
