'I have never been so scared in all of my life' are the words of an elderly woman whose home was broken into in Coventry. She had jewellery and a phone stolen when her city address was targeted in October.

Police said the break-in happened in Earlsdon at around 2pm on Monday, October 14. A woman in her 80s found a man inside her home and said that when she came face to face with him 'she had never been so scared.'

Thankfully, the elderly woman was uninjured. However, jewellery and a mobile phone were stolen, West Midlands Police said.

Police are investigating the burglary and have carried out extensive house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV. Detectives have today (November 18) issued an image of a man they would like to speak to and urged people who recognise him to get in touch by calling 101.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating the burglary, and having carried out extensive house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV from the area, we want to speak to this man. We know the footage is unclear, but we also know just how much such crimes affect those whose homes are broken into and possessions stolen.”

Officers from Coventry Police are supporting the elderly victim, who has not been identified. A spokesman said: “We have offered her support following the break-in, and she told us how much of an impact this has had on her, saying: 'I have never been so scared in all of my life as I was when I turned around and came face to face with the man.'”

He was of a slight build, around 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall, with shoulder-length brown hair, West Midlands Police said. “We want to identify and detain whoever was responsible, and we would ask anyone who believes they recognise the person in the footage to get in contact,” they said.
