A hugely popular Coventry band embarked on a 'special' project that has seen one of their iconic songs recreated. The Enemy has joined forces with The Subways to raise much-needed funds for Shelter and Mind.

Ahead of the 'Indie Til I Die' tour, which celebrated the rousing energy and youthful spirit of the early 2000s indie scene, Coventry band The Enemy and The Subways announced details of a special initiative in aid of Shelter, a housing and homelessness charity, and mental health charity Mind.

In October this year, the two bands released covers of each others songs, with The Enemy tackling The Subways' classic single 'Rock and Roll Queen' and The Subways putting their twist on 'We Will Live And Die In These Towns,' a song that has been adopted as a pre-match anthem by the Sky Blues.

Coventry City FC will be throwing its support behind the project by playing the songs during the upcoming fixture against Sheffield United on November 23 at the CBS Arena. The Enemy and The Subways also collaborated to produce a half-and-half scarf and saw, for every scarf sold, another donated to Shelter.

Singer Andy Hopkins, from The Enemy, said: “I just want to say a huge thank you to all the Coventry City fans for their amazing support of our song 'We Will Live And Die In These Towns.' It has been an amazing feeling watching it grow and grow throughout last season before the games.”

He continued: “It makes the hairs on my neck stand up every time I see you all singing it. Thanks again for your continued support and good luck to our team this season. I will be singing loud and proud.”

All of the profits from the project will be donated to Shelter and Mind. The Subways' Billy Lunn said: “It is with great pleasure that we come together with our good friends, The Enemy, to highlight the need for intersectional thinking and action with regard to resolving the multitudinous social issues we face.”

Head of Marketing and Communications for Coventry City, Mark Hornby, said: “We are pleased to support The Enemy and The Subways in this campaign to raise funds and awareness for Shelter and Mind.

“We Will Live And Die In These Towns has become an integral part of the matchday experience at our matches in the last couple of years, whether at the Coventry Building Society Arena or memorably at Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final and brings our fans together in a moment that continues to be inspiring, so we are delighted to support The Enemy in this way.”
