Coventry City sent clear message after Haji Wright pounces to sink Oxford United

Haji Wright’s goal six minutes into stoppage time earned Coventry City their first victory of the season as the Sky Blues left it late to beat Oxford 3-2.

Mark Robins’ men had been a goal to the good twice through Wright and Milan van Ewijk, but were pulled back first by Ciaran Brown and then Mark Harris before the American sealed all three points.

Wright was the star man for the Sky Blues as he opened the scoring after 15 minutes when he powered home a header following Van Ewijk’s inviting cross from the right.

Coventry were searching for their first league win since a 1-0 victory over Leeds on April 6, a run stretching seven games either side of the summer break, while a point would have been Oxford’s first on the road in the second tier since a 0-0 draw at Bradford City in May 1999.

Here is what some of them had to say on social media...

Paul Adams: Some great attacks, some awful defending. 3-2 is more than fair.... 3 points, we move on!

Paul: It's my 35th Birthday tomorrow. If this is how we're going to play all season, I'm not too sure I'll be around to see my 36th! It's never boring being a City fan.

Nick Henderson: Brilliant performance. Fully deserved. Defensive howler for the winner, but who cares. A super composed finish. We deserved to win that game. It should have been more comfortable if we could learn to defend properly!

Jack: Made it difficult for ourselves with two sloppy goals given away. However, shown character, absolutely class end to the game, seen a last minute winner already. Tighten up at the back and we have the firepower to push on.

Rory Davies: Much better but still so much to improve on. Way too sloppy, all their chances came from our mistakes and conceded 2 very poor goals

Deez Games: Wins a win, but it's gonna be a long season if we need 95th minute winners against newly promoted teams

Rob: Attack was solid. Poor defensively especially for the second. But an improvement for sure,

David Unwin: Fantastic performance City, Tidy up at the back please, two sloppy goals nearly cost us there, but a cracking 3 points all the same.
