New Coventry City signing Luis Binks explains what brought him back to the club

Luis Binks has explained exactly what brought him back to Coventry City on a permanent basis.

The 22-year-old defender has upgraded his season-long loan to a four year deal with the Sky Blues, joining the CBS Arena for an undisclosed fee from Italian Serie A club Bologna.

Binks expressed a desire to leave Italy a number of times last term and believed City was the ideal club for him to continue his development, and is delighted that has now become a reality.

“I think I said a few times last season that I wanted to come back ahead of the new season, and I am buzzing to be back,” said the centre-back.

“To work with the manager and Adi can only be a good thing for me and I am excited to see where it goes.”

On his summer conversations with Mark Robins, he revealed: “I spoke to gaffer about a month ago and we spoke about how he sees me going forward at this Football Club, and where we can get to, and that made my mind clear that I wanted to come here and keep working. I always wanted to come and work with him, Adi [Viveash] and the boys. I get on well with everyone, one and off the pitch, and that’s a big part of it. If I am happy off the pitch then I will be happy on the pitch.”

Reflecting on his 2023/24 season with the club, he said: “I had to be patient last season but I had some great moments, especially that game at Wembley against Manchester United. That game was so special and I want to experience that again.

“I can’t wait to get going on July 1. It is great to be back and it was always my aim to return. I enjoyed every single minute.”

He added: “I am delighted and it will be very special to get the shirt back on next season. I may have been a loan player last season but I did not feel like one, and I tried to play like I was a permanent Coventry City player. I embraced the Club and I fully bought into everything that the Club is trying to do. I truly feel like one of you.”
