Coventry restaurant hit with zero-star hygiene rating told to make 'major improvements'
A top-rated Coventry restaurant has been hit with a zero-star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). KaBana was told to make 'major improvements' following an inspection in August.
KaBana, on Far Gosford Street, has been awarded a 4.8-star rating on Google Reviews. Yet, the hygiene measures were found to be below par when they were visited by Coventry City Council.
Inspectors visit hundreds of businesses each year, scoring them on hygiene, the management of food safety, and food handling. Other factors taken into consideration are cleanliness, pest control, and whether systems are in place to ensure good food hygiene is maintained.

Officials visited KaBana, which serves Eritrean and Ethiopian-inspired food, on August 12, 2024. Inspectors found that the city centre-based business needed to make 'major improvements' to the management of food safety, Coventry City Council said.
Concerns were raised over employees' knowledge about food safety and the systems and checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, Coventry City Council said. Cleanliness was also found to be subpar, with improvements said to be 'necessary.'
Inspectors also highlighted that improvements needed to be made to the 'condition of the facilities and the building.' Issues were also found with hygienic food handling, which includes preparation, cooking, reheating and cooling.
