Coventry takeaway hit with one-star hygiene rating told to make 'major improvements'
A Coventry fast-food takeaway has been hit with a one-star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency. Chicken Express in Earlsdon was told to make 'major improvements' following an inspection in December.
Inspectors visit hundreds of businesses each year, scoring them on hygiene, the management of food safety, and food handling. Other factors taken into consideration are cleanliness, pest control, and whether systems are in place to ensure good food hygiene is maintained.
Officials visited Chicken Express on Albany Road on December 2, 2024, and found that the hygiene measures were below the required standard. Bosses were told that they needed to make 'major improvements.'

Officials found that the city-based business needed to make 'major improvements' to hygienic food handling. It includes the cooking, reheating, cooling, and storage of food served.
Concerns were also raised over employees' knowledge about food safety and the systems in place to ensure that food sold is safe to eat, Coventry City Council said. Cleanliness and the condition of the facilities and the building were, however, said to be 'good.'
