The UK recorded 31,772 new Covid cases on Sunday and 26 deaths.

Infections have soared with the arrival of the Delta variant in the UK but deaths have stayed relatively low because of the vaccine rollout.

Boris Johnson is expected to announce on Monday that all restrictions will lift on July 19.

According to The Sun he will warn Britons to be ultra-cautious with their newfound freedom.

The PM is also expected to drop his “irreversible” promise, opening the door to more lockdowns this winter.

However, vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi suggested on Sunday that people will still be expected to masks.

He told The Andrew Marr Show: “The guidelines will be very clear on things like mask-wearing, there’s an expectation on people to wear masks indoors, in crowded places, on public transport. There’s both a personal responsibility and a corporate responsibility.”
