COVID-denying Indonesian pastors and church-goers burn masks and denounce vaccine

Scores of church-goers joined their local pastors in the Papua Province of eastern Indonesia on Monday (August 2) to burn masks and denounce the COVID-19 vaccines. Footage captured in the Kwamki Narama District showed the COVID-denying clergymen leading their congregations in setting fire to the masks while expressing their disbelief in the pandemic. "So, on behalf of the Kwamki Narama area on behalf of the team, we do not believe in vaccines and the coronavirus outbreak," said one of the pastors. Hospitals in Indonesia's easternmost region of Papua have been nearing full capacity recently amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.
