SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 32 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of noon on Saturday (10 April), taking the country's total case count to 60,633.

One of the new cases is in the community while the rest are imported.

The imported cases had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) upon arrival in Singapore.

The sole community case – a 71-year-old female Indian national who is a short-term visit pass holder and a retiree – is currently unlinked, the ministry said.

She arrived from India on 28 December 2020 and served SHN at a dedicated facility until 10 January 2021. Her test taken on 8 January during SHN was negative for COVID-19.

As she had been identified as a close contact of Cases 59169 and 59173 during their flight to Singapore, she was placed on quarantine from 10 January to 11 January. She developed a fever on 5 April and was tested for COVID-19 when she sought medical treatment the next day. Her test result came back positive for COVID-19 infection on 8 April and she was conveyed in an ambulance to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.

Another test conducted by the National Public Health Laboratory on 9 April was negative for COVID-19 infection. Her serological test result has come back positive, which is indicative of a past infection. She could be shedding minute fragments of the virus RNA, which are no longer transmissible and infective to others. However, the MOH said, that "given that we are not able to definitively conclude when she had been infected, we will take all the necessary public health actions as a precautionary measure".

Details of 31 imported cases

Among the 31 imported cases,

  • One is a Singaporean who returned from Papua New Guinea.

  • Two are dependant’s pass holders who arrived from India.

  • Three long-term visit pass holders who arrived from India and Myanmar.

  • Five are student's pass holders who arrived from India.

  • Three work pass holders who arrived from Nepal, the Maldives and Philippines.

  • 15 are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines, of whom five are foreign domestic workers.

  • Two short-term visit pass holders. One had arrived from India with her spouse who is working here. The other arrived from Malaysia to visit his family member who is a Singapore permanent resident.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at two cases per week in the past two weeks. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also remained stable at two cases per week in the past two weeks.

99% of total cases have recovered, 1 in ICU

With 18 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Saturday, 60,322 cases – or 99.5 per cent of the total – have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 45 hospitalised cases are stable or improving, while one of them is in the intensive care unit.

A total of 236 patients – with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive – are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Apart from the 30 patients who have died from COVID-19 complications, 15 others who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four, whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease.

Among the 165 confirmed cases reported from 4 to 10 April, 55 cases have tested positive for their serology tests, 73 have tested negative, and 37 serology test results are pending.
