Cow at farm with popular shop rescued after sliding down cliff edge
This the moment a young cow called Chloe was raised back up to level ground after an adventure which saw her slip down a cliffside and become stranded at the bottom.
Firefighters and a vet had to be called to rescue the adventurous bovine after she missed the edge of the cliff and slid down the cliff edge.
Farmer Stephen Bosustow, from Trerise Farm near Kuggar on the Lizard Peninsula, told Cornwall Live she somehow ended up there late on Saturday afternoon. “She went over the edge yesterday and I could see that she was ok, she was up and safe on the wide part near the bottom of the cliff, wandering around on her own, eating fine. It was just that she couldn’t get herself back up again,” he said.

“We were hoping she would find her own way back up again but when it became obvious she couldn’t, we got in some help to get her back up,” he added. That help involved Devon and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service ’s animal rescue specialists, along with a vet. Firefighters set up a winch and went down to where she was, around 100ft below, along with a vet.
Chloe was sedated for her own safety, put into the harness and winched slowly back up from where she originally was yesterday afternoon.
Trerise Farm includes a popular farm shop, cafe and campsite, and the farm shop and cafe had to stay closed on Sunday morning because of the drama out in the farm’s fields near the coast.
Stephen thanked all the rescuers who came out to assist, and said: “We’ve been here more than 20 years and she’s the first one who has ever decided it would be a good idea to go over the edge of the cliff. We’re hoping she remembers not to do that again.”
Within a few minutes of being brought back up, the sedative began to wear off and Chloe was, rather gingerly at first, back on her feet, none the worse for her ordeal.
