The Craft actress says Charmed "ripped off" cult film

An actress from The Craft has claimed that the original Charmed show "ripped off" the 1996 cult movie and "cut out the black character".

This week, Charmed star Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper Halliwell, addressed speculation regarding her opinion on the forthcoming reboot, challenging the feminist status of a show that "says the original actresses are too old to do what they did 12 years ago".

"Let me say first that I appreciate the jobs and opportunities the Charmed reboot has created," she said on Twitter.

"But I will never understand what is fierce, funny, or feminist in creating a show that basically says the original actresses are too old to do a job they did 12 years ago.

"I hope the new show is far better than the marketing so the true legacy does remain."

In response, actress Rachel True – who played Rochelle in The Craft – expressed her displeasure with the original Charmed.

"I felt it was kinda crazy Charmed ripped off the The Craft & cut out the black character," she said.

"Nothing to do with the actress personally. My statement's on Hollywood & race in the 90's vs the cultural shift happening today. Bruja culture on TV is long overdue."

Digital Spy has reached out to The CW for comment.

Charmed will return to The CW this autumn.
